Methodology
Mechanical Clot Detection
Useful as a screening procedure for deficiencies in coagulation factors of the intrinsic coagulation pathway; to screen patients with a bleeding tendency; for evaluating the effect of therapy in precoagulant disorders; as a basis for several specific coagulation factor assay procedures.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive within 8 hours of draw.
Container/Tube:
Light blue-top (3.2% sodium citrate) tube
Clotted blood or an insufficient specimen is not acceptable.
Specimen Volume: Full tube (90%) of plasma
Collection Instructions: Do not centrifuge.
Note:
1. Draw a discard tube prior to light blue-top (3.2% sodium citrate) tube.
2. Tube should remain stoppered.
3. IF the sample is collected to monitor patient on Heparin Therapy, stability time s are shortened.
Specimen MUST be received in lab within 1 hour of collection.
