Important Note

• Testing may be performed at any Beebe Healthcare Lab Express collection site.
• Patient can be fasting or non-fasting. Test can be administered regardless of time of day or last meal.
• Order Glucose Tolerance 1 hour Gestational in the computer
• Give 50 grams of oral glucose to the patient
• It must be consumed within 5 minutes
• After consumption of oral glucose the patient is requested to return to the lab in one hour for a venipuncture.  The patient is informed she must not eat or smoke and can drink water only. 
• Draw glucose level 1 hour after consumption of glucose beverage.

If a patient comes in with an order that has both a fasting and a 1 hour gestational.  The above steps are the same.  You would just need to draw the fasting glucose before starting the 1 hour gestational process.
