Useful For

Determining whether a patient has had previous exposure to or recent infection with cytomegalovirus, including pregnant women.

 

This test is not useful for screening blood or plasma donors, or neonatal screening.

Negative

Negative for CMV IgG. False negative results may occur in immunocompromised patients.

 

Borderline

Recommend follow-up testing in 10-14 days if clinically indicated.

 

Positive

CMV IgG antibodies detected, which indicate recent or remote infection.
