Test Code BMBA Bone Marrow Biopsy/Aspiration
Methodology
Includes tissue processing, hematoxylin-and-eosin stain,
Diff-Quik stain, iron stain, and additional stains if
necessary for interpretation.
Useful for evaluation of bone marrow biopsy for diagnosis of
hematologic and/or non-hematologic diseases. Aspirate specimen may
also be submitted for cytogenetic testing and flow cytometry. See

Specimen Requirements
Direct smear, aspirate clot, and core biopsy are required.

Specimen Volume: Bone marrow aspirate
Forms: Request for Surgical Pathology and Non-Gyn Cytology
Collection Instructions: Submit at least 4
air-dried, direct smears of the bone marrow aspirate on slides
labeled with patient’s name.

Specimen Volume: Aspirate clot

Collection Instructions: Submit aspirate clot in a 30-mL formalin container (clear solution).
